Description
Looking for a slice of history in one of Britain's favourite locations?

Having been the perfect family home for over 20 years for its present owners, we are delighted to be able to present this opportunity to purchase a unique property with an amazing history, a quiet location in a no-through-road, but within a 3 minute stroll to the village centre of Chew Magna - a much-prized location within easy reach of both Bristol and Bath - and which has massive potential to modernise and expand its facilities for a new generation to enjoy.

The Wheatsheaf is the fourth of Chew Magna's four original village Inns, but which was converted to a private home in 1963. A building has been on the site since perhaps the 1600s or earlier, but it is in Georgian times that the building was converted into the five bedroom village landmark property that everyone now knows.

When owned by George's Brewery (situated in central Bristol, they brought their beer down by rail to Pensford, and then on by cart to the Wheatsheaf - the adjoining victorian cart house and stable remain intact) the Wheatsheaf was a place to drink (there are still many alive who remember going there, if not coming out), a place to stay during the 19th century and, during the mid part of the 20th century, even a place to buy coal as entrepreneurial owners made ends meet through ingenious means.

We wonder what it may hold for the next owners?

Despite 'improvements' in the 1970s many of the original features remain. Fireplaces have been uncovered in renovations undertaken by the current owners of 25 years, and beams, stonework and the original wrought-iron pub sign have been retained in this process along with many features in the outbuildings also, giving it true character and an unspoiled sense of history.

The property is fronted by a pathway, with room for parking for at least 4 cars. There is a secluded garden to one side, and there are no buildings to the rear or side.
